FNMI STATEMENT
ETFO has committed to making the following statement at the outset of all
meetings and events:
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario acknowledges and thanks
the First Peoples of this territory and other Indigenous peoples for sharing
this land in order for us to continue our work today.
THE PRIDEHOUSE THAT KIDS BUILT PROJECT
ETFO’s involvement in the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games goes back several
years. ETFO has played a lead role in founding and helping create plans for
PrideHouse Toronto at the Games. PrideHouse Toronto is committed to ensuring
there is a place for everyone in sport and making the Toronto 2015 Games the
most LGBTQ-inclusive games ever.
ETFO’s The PrideHouse That Kids Built is an initiative to get elementary students
engaged in the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games. The goal of The PrideHouse That Kids Built is
to promote awareness of equitable participation in organized sports in partnership with PrideHouse
Toronto and was launched at Rose Avenue Public School in Toronto on the Day of Pink (April 8).
The project will assist teachers in all elementary schools in Ontario to have age-appropriate discussions
with elementary students about the importance of equity and inclusion in sports regardless of ability/
disability, race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.
