ETFO supports many community groups doing equity and social justice work.
ANTI-POVERTY GROUPS
In 2014-2015, ETFO made donations totalling $10,000 to grassroots-level groups working on poverty
issues undertaking political activities to further their cause, or working directly to benefit those living
in poverty in their communities.
EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH MUSIC
This is a community initiative that reaches out to incarcerated women to offer healing and empowerment
through music. The program has been carried out in three different institutions over the past six years.
This initiative directly benefits the most marginalized women in Ontario society: women who are often
victims of violence, poverty, intersectional oppression and abuse. It also benefits the children of these
women who are in classrooms throughout the province. Addressing issues of literacy, self-esteem,
positive interpersonal relationships and acceptance and understanding of diverse cultures through
writing and music helps to break the cycle of despair for these women and their children. A CD of the
songs written by the women prisoners was released last year.
