In a special presentation during Session 6, Sam Hammond presented the 2016 President’s Award to Thames Valley OT Local President Terry Card. During the presentation, Hammond lauded her more than 20 years of exemplary service to members in her local, and her support in other locals as well. Congratulations on winning this award, Terry!

Thames Valley Occasional Teacher Local president Terry Card receives prestigious ETFO President’s Award

(TORONTO) Thames Valley Occasional Teacher Local President Terry Card received the prestigious annual President’s Award at the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario’s (ETFO) Annual Meeting today.
In announcing the award, ETFO President Sam Hammond paid tribute to the outstanding service that Terry has given to ETFO and its members in over two decades of service.
“Terry has extended her support not only to ETFO members in Thames Valley and other locals across the province but to her community as well,” Hammond told over 800 delegates to the Federation’s Annual Meeting. “Over the years I have appreciated Terry’s ability to speak out on issues of importance to the Federation and its Executive and be forthright and honest in expressing her perspective.”
As president of her local, Terry represents approximately 1,500 teachers whose job is to seamlessly replace permanent teachers in the 134 elementary schools of the Thames Valley District School Board for absences ranging from one day to a full year.
Terry has served as president and chief negotiator for the Thames Valley Occasional Teacher Local for 16 years. In this role, she has negotiated provisions in collective agreements that have enhanced the professional and ongoing learning of her members for the benefit of the students they teach.
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario represents 78,000 elementary public school teachers and education professionals across the province and is the largest teacher federation in Canada. Its Building Better Schools education agenda can be viewed at www.buildingbetterschools.ca.
