TORONTO, August 10, 2018 – Upwards of 1,000 public elementary school teachers and education professionals will attend the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) in Toronto starting Monday at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel. Along with celebrating ETFO’s 20th anniversary, members will set policies and directions for the coming year at this democratic forum.
The Ford government’s repeal of Ontario’s sexual health curriculum will be a reoccurring theme, starting with ETFO President Sam Hammond’s opening address on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, ETFO members will be joined by organizations including the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and The 519 at a Queen’s Park rally focused on the curriculum following an address by Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath.
In its 20th year, ETFO represents 83,000 elementary public school teachers and education professionals across Ontario. Reporters are welcome to attend sessions. Media credentials are available at the ETFO Media Centre. For daily agenda and resolutions, see annualmeeting.ca and click on the documents tab. Regular updates will be posted to our blog located at that website, on Twitter @ETFOeducators, @ETFOmedia and #ETFOam2018 and Facebook ETFOprovincialoffice.
